From slinky evening elegance to fabulous ruffles and fine lace, here are six runway looks we love for this new season in bridal
Photographs: Valmont Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week
Our six runway looks for spring / summer 2021, chosen from the runway shows at Valmont Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week, show the versatility of new-season bridal styles. Be it a flirtatious puff-sleeve mini, a devastatingly glamorous evening style or a cool take on the classic lace gown, there’s a look for every bride to love.
1. Cool crop – Jesus Peiro
There’s so much style to this chic mini from long-established Spanish bridal house Jesus Peiro. First up is the fabulous lace with a graphic twist to add a cool and modern texture. Then there’s the on-trend high collar. And finally, we have fabulous puffed sleeves ending at the elbow. There’s a slightly retro flavour to this look, and it’s perfect choice for the bride who wants standout style for the register office or summer garden party. It’s shown here with lace stockings but we’d also wear it with slinky sheers or even tanned bare legs. jesuspeiro.com
2. Satin edge – Poesie Sposa
With bold feature sleeves still one of bridal’s strongest fashion stories, Poesie Sposa’s gown in a gorgeous rich café-crème hued satin is a standout choice for on-trend style. The dramatic sleeves are ruffled and tiered, adding flow and movement as well as a strong silhouette. The rest of the gown has a simple and flowing cut, with low v back and soft train. It’s accessorised here with a floral jewel tie belt. poesiesposa.it
3. Classic twist – Cymbeline
This clever twist on a bridal classic from French bridal house Cymbeline caught our eye for its wearable but distinctive style. The dress itself is a simple and eminently wearable slimline style with slight mermaid flair, fine lace detailing and bootlace straps. What transforms it into something edgier is the shirt-effect overtop. In sheer tulle with lace detailing, it has a smart collar, oversized covered buttons and flattering ruffled elbow-length sleeves. It’s just perfect for a quick church to dancefloor change. cymbeline.com
4. Fine froth – Demetrios
There’s always room for escapism – never more so than now – and this Demetrios number was a showstopper on the runway at Valmont Barcelona Bridal Fashion Week. The decadent illusion-panel fitted bodice jewelled with diamanté is paired to a frothy and frou-frou ruffled skirt with train. It’s full-on fabulous, and also thoroughly modern with its daring front split. What’s not to love? demetrios.com
5. Draped glamour – Pronovias
Beautifully cut and beyond glamorous, this Pronovias gown is a devastatingly elegant choice for an evening celebration or destination wedding. The gown is fitted but flattering, thanks to superb fabric and clever draping. While the line is simple, we love the crossover-effect bodice with neat illusion panel to create a one-shoulder effect. pronovias.com
6. Lace grace – Flora
Lace is a timeless choice for bridal, but Flora refreshes the effect with this gloriously romantic gown from its 2021 collection. The cut is very modern – off the shoulder and with detachable half sleeves – and there’s a bustier effect to the bodice. The refined floral lace is patterned so that it trails down the length of the gown, and with a neat lace trim to define the waist. flora-bride.com
