Jenny Packham is already a byword for sophisticated bridal style, but her catwalk show at New York’s Bridal Fashion Week ramped up the glamour, with lush silks, slinky silhouettes and glittering details
Jenny Packham always offers the kind of elegant and sophisticated gowns that are perfect for contemporary brides. And the good news is that her 2018 bridal collection catwalk show ramped up the glamour still further offering standout slinky outfits alongside fairytale gowns and cocktail classics.
New to the collection shown at New York Spring Bridal Fashion Week are choice bridal separates – just perfect for destination brides and anyone who favours a more relaxed and versatile style of occasion dressing.
We particularly love the Magic & Clemence combination – a tulle top embellished with fine crystals matched to a chic pair of ivory crepe palazzo pants. This would be the perfect outfit for a smart city or destination wedding. Another lovely pairing is the Angel & Joy, a luxurious ivory silk slip with lattice overtop – just the gown a bride needs to pack for partying on the beach.
Fairytale gowns are also in the mix for brides planning a ballroom affair. One of our favourites for unabashed romance was Cosmic, a gorgeous ivory tulle gown sprinkled with crystals and with a fairywing effect at the shoulders.
Jenny Packham has stellar credentials when it comes to red-carpet evening gowns – her very first fashion collection back in 1988 was RTW eveningwear – so she’s always a great bet for a gown that will hit the mark at a sophisticated cocktail-party-style wedding or multi-event celebration. Our favourites from the 2018 collection include Freedom a leg-revealing tulle gown in a flattering barley shade.
There’s also a standout short cocktail gown for brides marrying at a chic city hotel. Happy is a simple ivory lace shift finishing above the knee – we love the flattering effect of the bodice, pretty lace scalloped detail on hem and the fashion-forward bold sleeves, also with scalloped edges.
If we had to pick just one from a collection with no shortage of star turns it would be from the separates line. Verity & Bloom combines a gorgeous halterneck embellished bodice with a floaty tulle skirt. This is both knockout glamorous and a smart investment buy – the bodice and skirt are classics that are eminently wearable individually long after the wedding day.
While the gowns glittered, the accessories were also stunning. As ever, models wore heels by Christian Louboutin – custom-designed for the show and with his trademark red soles. Make up was by Cassandra Garcia (check out her latest work via @CYGMakeup) for Bobbi Brown. Models also wore glittering jewels from the new Jenny Packham for Goldsmiths collection.
