Nikeen Asar is a new designer offering a chic and very London look for fashion-forward brides
Here at Absolutely Weddings we’re always on the look out for exciting new names in the world of bridal design and we think Nikeen Asar, as featured on the cover of our Autumn/Winter magazine, is one to watch.
A former Topshop senior dress designer, Nikeen switched from the cutting-edge world of British street fashion to wedding attire around a year ago and has been creating looks for brides who want something fresh and different ever since. He says: “Most of my brides come to me because they can’t find the dress they are looking for”. The majority have found him through word-of-mouth recommendation or because they’ve spotted a look of his that they love on social media.
“I am inspired by minimalism – focusing more on shape, fit and volume – and I feel very strongly about working with local talent”
Nikeen describes his look as sleek and contemporary. “I am inspired by minimalism and less is more, focusing more on shape, fit and volume.” All designs are bespoke and custom-made for each client and, while some brides like to select from his lookbooks or adapt an existing style, others come to him with an idea that he then works up with sketches.
Everything is pattern-cut, made and fitted from his London home studio. He also likes to work with suppliers around the city: “I feel very strongly about working with local talent,” he says. His fabrics are sourced from France and Italy so they drape and hang beautifully.
Alongside choice bridal gowns and separates, Nikeen offers a lovely jewellery collection that he designs himself and has custom-made in England. A small shoe collection in the mix – again designed by Nikeen – is made for him in Portugal.
With his label launched this autumn, we expect many more brides to flock to Nikeen Asar’s door. His fashion-forward eye and ability to customise a perfect outfit around each client mean he’s offering something small-scale, glamorous and decidedly different. The fact that gowns and separates are designed and made here in London is one more reason to love this new bridal label.
