Pastels are a strong theme, with soft green firmly in the mix

Colour stories

This is an exciting year for bridesmaid fashion. We predict it will be a celebration of the new soft and romantic hues that are soon to be trending in the fashion industry. Be prepared for an array of dresses in pale yellow, melon, peach shades and pastel greens. Soft pastels are set to be popular this Spring, while Autumn-Winter collections will see russet shades coming into play. The colour trends of the year will beautifully mimic the changing colours of the seasons and moods of the Earth.

Expect less conventional looks, such as jumpsuits

Traditional v modern

As years go by, I am continuing to see that many brides are still being traditional and inviting best friends and family to be bridesmaids in long dresses. But there is also an emerging trend toward less conventional styles. This year, jumpsuits are offering an alternative look that appeals to many brides and bridesmaids. I also predict that prom-style dresses, made of very sparkly glitter and sequinned fabrics, are going to be seen more at weddings – reflecting the glamorous style of many celebrations.

Switch it up bridesmaid style

Two dress changes are no longer just for brides. We are now seeing two changes for bridesmaids – a more formal dress for the ceremony and then a second style, for the evening reception. An alternative to changing outfits is the new Dessy Loop Dress. Designed by Carlos Saavedra for Dessy and available in two lengths, it has an additional ‘loop’ of fabric that enables it to be worn as one shoulder, cowl neck, halter, off-the-shoulder – in fact, 13 different ways. This means bridesmaids can choose one style for the day and switch it up for the evening party. Also, if you have a group of bridesmaids, they can each choose their individual look.
