Saying it with flowers is a time-honoured tradition, and never more so than at weddings. Whether it’s a lavish rose-garden setting, a dramatic floral arch or knockout bouquet, our eight real weddings prove that romance is in full bloom
Words Libby Norman
Flowers and weddings are inextricably linked – both conjure up romance and celebration and, of course, there is endless symbolism in the different colours and scents that make up a bouquet or floral arch. But, as our eight glorious weddings show, the impact can be in a single colour, a lush backdrop of greenery or a glorious flower garden in full bloom.
Francesca & Joe
Hever Castle is one of our most beautiful wedding settings. While photo opportunities are plentiful in all seasons, the walled garden in full bloom is beyond spectacular, so photographer Rebecca Claire made sure she captured Joe and Francesca rambling among the roses. hevercastle.co.uk & rebeccaclairephotography.com
Laura & George
Somerset was the location for George and Laura’s celebration, which took place on a balmy autumn day. Photographer Anne Schwarz was on hand to capture every romantic moment – including a stolen kiss behind the lovely white bridal bouquet created by Frome florist Bramble & Wild. brambleandwild.com &anneschwarzweddings.com
Katie & Mitchell
If you’re a florist yourself, your wedding has to major on blooms. Katie used her expertise to brief her suppliers and the result was a dreamy flower-garden setting for her wedding to Mitchell at Parklands, Quendon Hall, an historic Essex mansion set in a 100-acre deer park. benbull.net & quendonhall.co.uk
Tanya & Nigel
Tanya and Nigel were captured by Voyteck Photography signing the register under a fabulous bespoke floral arch created by Blooming Haus. This standout shot set the seal on a perfect celebration at stately Aynhoe Park. We love the arch’s lush mix of garden roses and high-summer blooms. london-weddingphotographer.com & bloominghaus.com
Emma & Mike
Emma and Mike were married at Wadhurst Castle, East Sussex on a beautiful July day and chose an A Midsummer Night’s Dream theme. The beautiful flowers by Lydie Dalton, chosen to match Emma’s bridal colours, included scented roses and chocolate cosmos. parkershots.com & lydiedaltonfloraldesign.co.uk
Laura & David
Hedsor House in Taplow, Buckinghamshire has the perfect room to dress for romantic wedding ceremonies, and David and Laura chose a beautifully simple backdrop of candles, greenery and pure white roses, artfully realised by florist Lily’s Flowers. hedsor.com & caughtthelight.com
Sophie & Alex
Exclusive-use wedding venue Millbridge Court is in the picturesque village of Frensham, Surrey, so perfect setting for a country wedding. Sophie and Alex were captured in its delightful gardens by Kerry-Ann Duffy. The bride’s stunning bouquet is by Bloomingayles. kerryannduffy.com & millbridgecourt.co.uk
Natalie & Damian
Cornwell Manor, an exclusive-use venue on a 2,000-acre estate near Chipping Norton, is the perfect location for a floral wedding. Natalie and Damian made the most of this romantic Cotswolds setting by strolling in its lush grounds, also capturing this shot with their bridesmaids and groomsmen. lucyturnbull.co.uk & cornwellmanor.com
