City weddings are a celebration of love that makes onlookers pause, smile and forget the noise and travails of the day. And, whether it’s ancient spires or modern landmarks, our photo album of eight real weddings capture a timeless sense of place
Words: Libby Norman
City weddings are so chic, whether they be on the grand or small scale. And, let’s face it, there’s something heart-meltingly romantic about the sight of a couple emerging from church or register office – or walking hand-in-hand along the streets, oblivious of the noise and worries of the world around them. Our photo album of eight real weddings show that there’s no shortage of iconic landmarks and streetscapes, not to mention glorious city spaces to celebrate your day.
Kathleen & Ryan
Kathleen and Ryan were married in the centre of Glasgow, taking time out to stroll down Ingram Street – the city’s fashion central – in full wedding regalia, capturing a classic for the album with their wedding photographer Ross Alexander. The bride’s fabulous gown is by Pronovias. rossalexanderphotography.com
Tally & Alex
Tally and Alex chose their home city and the ceremony took place in a Knightsbridge church. Guests were then transported by red London double-deckers to the bride’s family home for a reception in the garden. This had been transformed into a floral paradise, with project design, production and music by the team at Marble Events. marbleprivate.com & divinedayphotography.com
Sean & Rada
Sean and Rada’s London wedding took place on top of the world, with a joyous ceremony at The Gherkin attended by friends and loved ones. The amazing views over the city needed flowers to match, Lavender Green created knockout displays of all-white blooms and lush greenery, bringing the country to the city. The celebration was photographed beautifully by Gary Summers of SMD. smdphotography.co.uk & lavendergreen.co.uk
Holly & Philip
There’s nothing like a cathedral wedding, and for Holly and Philip it was Ely Cathedral, the ‘Ship of the Fens’. Following a beautiful service, they took time out with photographer Ben Bull and were photographed against the backdrop of its spire before heading off to The Old Hall – which has prime views of this ancient city landmark – for their reception. benbull.net & theoldhallely.co.uk
Velda & Ken
Velda and Ken were married in China but came back to London for a celebration at One Whitehall Place at The Royal Horseguards Hotel. This is a stunning venue right in the heart of Westminster, so they took time out from the party for a stroll along Embankment and down by the Thames to make photo memories. bylumiere.co.uk
Niamh & Shiva
Dublin’s fair city is a perfect place for a summer wedding and Niamh and Shiva celebrated in August at No. 25 Fitzwilliam Place, a townhouse wedding and party venue in the wonderfully photogenic Georgian Mile, providing a perfect backdrop for cool streetscape scenes by photographer Phil Voon. giveusagoo.com
Sarah & Catherine
For Sarah and Catherine it had to be London and their intimate winter wedding took in favourite spots around the city. Their great luxury was a suite at The Shard for canapés and bubbly with their guests, after which they married at Mayfair Library. En route to dinner in a favourite restaurant, photographers By Lumiere captured beautiful shots against the backdrop of iconic landmarks. bylumiere.co.uk
Melissa & Joe
Joe and Melissa chose the city of dreaming spires, marrying at Oriel College, Oxford and with a reception in the Divinity Rooms at Bodleian Libraries. They were captured, strolling hand in hand down the street made famous by Inspector Morse in this wonderfully atmospheric shot in Brasenose Lane. bylumiere.co.uk
