Islington Assembly Hall is an iconic 1930s building located right next door to Islington Town Hall. Already one of London’s most exciting live music venues and with a capacity to host a crowd, the stage is set for you to design a quite unique wedding party.
Scene setting
Islington Assembly Hall is a venue on a grand scale, with its superb Portland stone frontage and location on Islington’s Upper Street. Inside the beautifully restored building you will find fabulous period features, including elegant Art Deco columns, fine wood panelling and a stunning central stage and tiered balcony in the main function room. Islington Assembly Hall began life as a renowned London location for dances and variety shows, so this is the perfect place for couples to play a starring role at a wedding party. Since it’s right next door to the equally beautiful Islington Town Hall, you can hold the service in one of the town hall’s fine ceremony rooms before leading your guests to the after party.

This is most definitely the place for dancing and live acts – The Guardian has described it as one of London’s best mid-sized venues, attracting leading pop, roots and indie acts, so you should have no trouble finding a band or DJ to entertain you and your guests! Sophisticated lighting and sound are housed in an authentic period setting, with proscenium-arch stage, heavy drapes and fabulous Deco cornicing and gilding around the stage. You can host a crowd here too – 176 seated or up to 250 for a less formal standing celebration. Whichever you choose, you will probably want to take advantage of the sprung oak floor for a spot of dancing.

Islington Assembly Hall has an in-house events team to help you design a wedding to suit your style. You can opt for a range of celebration formats, ranging from dry hire (from £3,500) up to a comprehensive ‘all in’ package. This starts from £14,000 and includes a dedicated events co-ordinator, furniture and tableware, staff and a choice of menus. You can also book ceremony and reception through the team and create a bespoke event. Hire of Islington Assembly Hall is always from 2pm to midnight, so that gives you plenty of time to celebrate.
Extra magic
The internal spaces all have the wow factor, thanks to sensitive restoration, but the stage is the undisputed star here – lending itself to creative dressing and also making the perfect focal point for your band or DJ, or even a spot of guest-led entertainment. The hall is large with lofty ceilings, so you and your wedding party will feel part of a grand occasion, however you choose to arrange the venue (and its flexibility and space is a huge draw).
