So what’s trending in groomswear? Dominic Trooper from The Wedding Gallery gives his take on key trends for weddings in the seasons to come

Groomswear is just as dictated by fashion as wedding gowns, and anecdotal evidence suggests that the dandies among us may invest more in getting suited and booted for the big day than their brides. And why not indeed, since a good suit is an investment that will easily earn its keep. The good news is that the options are plentiful. Here, Dominic Trooper men’s fashion stylist at The Wedding Gallery, gives his take on your sartorial options in 2018.

Bold and bright

This will be the year that many more grooms shun tradition and let their threads do the talking. For the more fashion-forward gent wanting to divert away from the traditional grey or blue, vibrant suits in purples, burgundies or ink blues are very on trend, allowing you to showcase your personal style. Casely-Hayford tailoring is a great option for this look, with exceptional cut and colours in the mix.

The return of the three-piece

That stalwart of the men’s wardrobe of yesteryear is back in style this year and looking sharper than ever. A well-fitting three-piece suit can be sleek and sophisticated. When the jacket is removed, it is still a strong look – it can be relaxed with the shirt sleeves loosely rolled up, giving a confident, approachable look for the latter part of the day and evening. The range of SJ Soane three-piece suits, available exclusively at The Wedding Gallery, is a personal favourite of mine.

Style blending

It’s always worth considering how you and your groomsmen will work together. Using the same cloth for a groom and his groomsmen, but changing styles and detailing to make the groom stand out, is a strong, cohesive look without appearing contrived. You could try a regular waistcoat and notch lapels for the groomsmen and scoop waistcoat and peaked lapels for the groom.

Modern tweed

Tweed has always divided opinion, but in 2018 it will be perfectly in tune with the ever-growing desire for the more rural-chic wedding. Using slim cuts and contrasting colours means you achieve a contemporary aesthetic, which is a great way to add a bit of personality to your wedding-day look.

Slim fit

Slim is definitely still in when it comes to suits. For 2018, it is all about straight or tapered trouser legs. Pair the trousers with a slim jacket, emphasising chest and shoulders, to give a masculine and athletic silhouette. Exceptional cut and fit are essential to carry off the slimline look.
